About the meeting
The Slovenian Association of farm cheesemakers invites you to join farm and artisan cheesemakers from all over Europe who will gather in Slovenia, in the foothills of the Julian Alps, for the 12th annual FACE meeting.

There are many reasons to attend the 12th annual FACE meeting in Slovenia: to learn about new insights into the cheese and dairy profession, to present professional and scientific developments, and to meet and have in-depth discussions with farmers and artisanal cheesemakers from many European countries. All these are precious sources of information, new ideas, and an indispensable way of bringing together those who strive to make better products, preserve and enrich traditions, improve knowledge, and innovate. Furthermore, European farmers and artisanal cheese makers want to create a supportive environment for our work, contributing to the preservation and development of Europe’s countryside.

Theme & Schedule
The themes of this year’s expert meeting will be very diverse, ranging from technological to historical, but all share the ultimate goal of preserving traditional cheeses. The FACE meeting will conclude with a round table on-mountain cheeses, focusing on the distinction between authentic mountain cheeses and those that share only a name with the former. Participants will discuss how to protect the name ‘mountain cheese’ and the legislation that often puts cheese made on mountains at a disadvantage regarding marketing outside mountain dairies.

Excursion to Soča Valley
Staring point: Hotel Bohinj (Ribčev Laz 45, 4265 Bohinjsko jezero).
Excursion to highland and mountain farms in Soča Valley, where milk is processed into first-class cheeses and other dairy products, and the Planika cooperative dairy in Kobarid. Tastings of dairy products at the farms and traditional lunch at Planika Dairy.
